Context matters. Someone using profanity more often than they otherwise would in the same context is generally a signifier of stress or excitement.
How many times can you recall a president cursing when talking to reporters? Even Trump doesn’t curse much in his tweets or press briefings. So it’s definitely notable.

Today, however, I don’t agree that using “fuck” is at all an indicator of a low vocabulary (except in the case of overuse, but that’s true of any word). There are emotions that civil people aren’t supposed to feel, so we need words that we aren’t supposed to use to express them.

There are cults of personality that have successfully transformed into a cult of ideas. Mormons and Scientology are examples. However, in each case, the person at the center fostered a clear successor, and that successor was able to make it last in the long run by centering around ideas. Scientology still has that successor around (David Miscavige), but there isn’t really a specific person in charge of the LDS. Not in the same way. Their leadership is now interchangeable, but replacing their ideas is a harder sell.
Trump has no successor, and isn’t interested in fostering one. It’s not JD Vance; nobody respects him, including Trump. It’s a word. I’m getting broken down by the amount of censorship on the internet, particularly Youtube. Their guidelines only state to withhold any uncensored cursing or content deemed only suitable for mature audiences for the first fifteen seconds, to avoid being tagged as mature and the video viewcount and profit largely reduced. A very small price to pay for freedom of human expression and life. But channels take this much further than the relatively mild corporation’s rules, such as:
- Censoring or obscuring all expletives deemed by Christianity to be foul
- Censoring or obscuring all words describing a sensitive subject (e.g. rape, sex, sexual, abuse, murder, suicide, kill)
- Censoring any moment in which a being is subject to any form of impact, whether accidental, assault or police abuse
These actively block and suppress conversing about real issues, leading to more harm, more assault, and more silent victims. Every time the word suicide is censored signifies to me that another person has committed suicide because they weren’t heard. This has been proven to be correlation.
Censorship of human life, experience and expression not only insults my personal ideals of life and freedom, but actually causes more harm, and I cannot forgive that.
