There have never been so many satellites orbiting Earth as there are today, thanks in part to the launch of mega constellations like SpaceX's Starlink internet service - and now we are learning just how the sun's activity can affect them

They DO say sunlight is the best disinfectant. Now hopefully when they tumble out of orbit they exclusively bombard yachts, Tesla distribution centers, and mara-lago.

So the article says that it can reduce their lifespan by up to 10 days.

A quick check on the lifespan of the satellite, They claim they’re about 5 years.

I’d say the article title got done splainin’ to do.

In other news, how can we help the sun do better, 10 days is not enough.

Gonna have regular Starlink showers at this rate. Should be fun. As long as you don’t get hit with debris.

Too small for there too be debris. Im more worried about the heavy metals being incinerated in the upper atmosphere

we get about 44 metric tons of material from meteorites per day burning up in the atmosphere. I’m not sure how much starlink moves the needle on that

The article points out that Starlink debris has been found on the ground in Canada.

It’s only one in roughly 3000, that we know of. The more of them up there, though, the more will end up hitting the ground.

During solar maximum, the lifetime of a satellite could be reduced by up to 10 days, the researchers say.

I’m sure they have, but it doesn’t make a significant difference. The headline is just clickbait.
