They’re all Polish in Toronto.
LOL
Degas really was ahead of his time.
This is peak Lemmy humor
The fact that we are starting to see local memes besides dunking on ml and hex is clearly great news.
Is the associated spam a price we’re willing to pay, though?
“Oh no, the Fediverse project is showing adverse symptoms of growth! Hit the brakes!”
You might not mean it like that, but that’s what I’m hearing. I’ve been seeing variations of this sentiment since we started, with people calling communities of 10 “cozy” and using that feeling to justify wanting to keep Lemmy as a whole from growing past that.
Indeed, I don’t mean it like that. What I mean is that this specific meme makes light of a Fediverse spam campaign. So if we need spam as an impulse to create local memes … then that means a lot of spam. I was not being particularly serious though.
Ah okay, thanks for clearing it up.
Needs more beans imo
Good one, feel free to crosspost to !fedimemes@feddit.uk
If you mention @nicole@feddit.org it would cross post it to here.
Shouldn’t it just be #nicole?
No. That will post it to a nicole hashtag, on friendica you can make groups display posts from certain hashtags, but not lemmy.
technical explanation
On ActivityPub, the protocol that lemmy and masto use, everything is an Actor or an object. An actor is a person or a group. An object is a post or similar.
When you post to a group, you send the post to the group actors “inbox”. When you mention someone in a post, it sends the post to that persons “inbox”. This way, mentioning a group sends the post to the groups inbox.
Thanks for the technical bit - I’d never bothered to learn how the Fediverse works until now!
Everyone has been talking about fediverse chicks?
