  • Communism is unavoidably authoritarian probably partly because the whole ideology hinges on “just get the fucking revolution going, figure out the government after”, which is so incredibly easy to exploit.

There’s also the bit where the most minute considerations in favor of the collective vastly outweigh any individual, or group of individuals. And importantly; Becoming an individual, no longer representing the collective in the communist’s eyes, is incredibly easy and quick. You’re mentally exiled in the blink of an eye, just say the wrong thing and you’re suddenly standing on your own. No longer one of the people.

It seems you have to keep your language very broad and almost have to speak in a different tone if you want to keep your status as part of the struggling masses, and not just “a guy”.

Like you really have to sugar coat it and lay it on thick to get the communists to feel like you’ve earned sympathy and serious consideration, where you’re immediately fucked again if you trigger their “No true Scotsman” senses, a fallacy communists seem completely determined to live by.

If you’re just a guy unhappy with their governance, then that’s literally all you are. Your concerns aren’t the people’s, your concerns are unimportant.

  • And they don’t wanna.

I’d kinda love to see a successful approach to these kinds of issues where the UN would do something like drive protected buses into these areas, where the expectation is an unalienable right to enter those buses, with maybe 2/3rds of the seats reserved for women and children.

I wonder if any realistic iteration of that could work to get a decent number of would-be refugees out of situations they want out of, maybe a few thousand, ideally tens of thousands if not more.

It sounds like something that maybe could be made to work if communicated right, but could also meet armed resistance in many places, and there would probably be a lot of men making “their” women stay by force or coercion or lying, probably a lot of hiding inside while the buses pass.

I wonder if it could be done in a way that makes it worth it. It feels like the sort of rescue the UN should be doing.

It also feels like it really forces evil men to show their hand, reveal themselves explicitly as captors, and make it far easier to justify killing them, as I believe that is the ethical response to men who hold their wife hostage.

  • Yeah okay, so it sounds like he’s the kind of guy who’ll build a framework, or most of it, and won’t ever really become capable of hosting a lot of videos at a watchable quality.

Technically he’ll probably have built something basically functional the community could rally behind and get going. But that won’t happen, because the people who care about the Fediverse are few, insufficiently resourceful, and most importantly don’t care about shorts.

  • This whole thing with a series of “CommentX” accounts started because I wrote on reddit once that I hoped for this guy’s death, got permabanned, and made my first new account. I think I was up in the 140’s on reddit recently, still haven’t made an alt for lemmy since I started with 105.

But this specific guy, who I don’t usually hear much from because I don’t seek out content from/about that environment, said something so ugly about how good he thought poverty and struggle was, that it made me wish the worst for him.

It’s not that he’s much worse than the other guys in his wealth class, I mean he’s still up there but not #1 big bad by any means, but he’s just so fucking overtly classist and apparently in love with the suffering of those beneath him, it’s shocking.

It’s disappointing to be reminded of him, and that my wish upon a star wasn’t fulfilled. He should’ve been in that submarine.

  • And you’ll get really intense chants, which as far as I understand it’s a huge reason to go to live stadiums. Especially from the opposing team which in this case would be the thousands of protestors outside who would inevitably be very much against this whole thing.

Inside the stadium, while yes – technically there’s a separation of two teams – they’re both there because they want to see baby homeruns. They’re all on the baby-batting team.

  • Yeah I don’t get the drama with this one. Unless you’re some disappointed investor.

For me, with no stake in this, it’s fun. A bit weird and bad, but I’ve seen worse stuff. I feel like someone tried to do something interesting with that “Bird that wants to be a Plane” video.

In my mind I pictured the bird as Sora/GPT and the plane as the theorized incredible and perfect general AI behemoth.

Imagining the current AI as dumb, incapable and small. Not really able to understand the plane, only sort of, in it’s little bird way.
