@FreedomAdvocate zuda is an reimplementation of an api not a emulation.
We change constantly. Not sure what happens tomorrow and the past is something we learn from.
@FreedomAdvocate zuda is an reimplementation of an api not a emulation.
@FreedomAdvocate so you didn’t read the heise link which showed you that pre release tests had strict rules on how to test including framegen settings …
@FreedomAdvocate … this question is totally unimportant for the fact that their current behaivior is not very consumer friendly or harder expressed anti consumer.
Second cuda is not hardware dependend ;) https://github.com/vosen/ZLUDA/tree/master | https://www.xda-developers.com/nvidia-cuda-amd-zluda/
“Imagine a world where noone needed a brand specific addition to have modern features” … oh those ideas exist since centuries ( DX / OpenGL / Vulkan … ) … now ask yourself why nvidia always tries to operate outside of those api’s ?
…
@FreedomAdvocate https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/ati-cheating-on-benchmarks.877565/
read about that when they got grilled in the early 2000s
And how much nvidia influences media ->
@FreedomAdvocate you remember the time when AMD was called out for even the smallest of difference from a default render ? Now since nvidia basically use some kind of statistic guessing method -> Noone is allowed to call them out ?
I call them out cause basically they removed the possibility for any consumer to compare other graphics card with themself. Or did i miss nvidia making dlss / frametime generation and all the features available on other gpu brands ?
Do you know AI Models behind all this and how they would perform on other hardware ? Do we want to talk about how they try to force media to have access to tests ? Yes imho there is alot anti consumer here …
@RazgrizOne @FreedomAdvocate the reason why i decided for AMD after being nearly all my life team green ( aka >20 years ) , i feel like AI Frame Generation and Upscalling are anti consumer cause the hide the real performance behind none reproducable image generation. And if you look correctly … this is how nvidia has a performance lead over AMD.
@Screen_Shatter @atomicpoet Imho everyone who talks about quality in games should define how they define quality ;) I for example value story and game mechanics over graphics and usability perfection. So Balatro / Knights of the Pen and Paper or alot of the Square Enix Classic Releases on Android still are high quality games for me. My advice would be before you argue you start to define what quality means. After this you can much better measure and argue.
@kandoh @simple i would rather say they are aiming for full control over the product ;) How dare you used a bug in our game to your advantage -> we block your acces to the game and of course to continous rising prices , cause there is no second hand deals … let’s hope that steam and gog will be really long available an people still buy games even it’s much more expensive already …
I would also think that https://www.vintagestory.at/ is in a good shape to compete for a great minecraft like game ;)
https://fediverse.party/en/peertube/ << before you complain understand the technology behind. Everyone can basically provide a instance and it’s decentral. As more people participate / as more instances are provide as better for all and as cheaper. If you really want to step away from services like youtube and want to have it sustainable (aka not depending on business) than it’s your best choice. If you just want someone else to have the saying and replace one company with another good luck.
you found your way to lemmy but you don’t know about https://peertube.tv/ ;)
What are lightning cables are use for? Are really hurricane hunters now trying to get energy out of lightning?
I have used nvidia on my private PC on linux for more than a decade now. They provided a stable usable 3D acceleration in KDE1 when no other company did give a fuck about linux and voodoo had only their glide interface on the console.
As a customer i am very sad about the current state on linux and as a customer my next graphics card might be an AMD. The reasons are not only the driver but also that amd provides just more memory for the same money and i think that nvidia currently is cheating their way throu the consumer market (for real imaginary AI Pictures is a performance improvment ???).
But and thats why i disagree hardly with the “fuck nvidia” … they deserve the respect for the support much longer than any brand out there and therefor they deserve a respectfull way to express where they imho do wrong.
Thanks alot for the information. I understand the pain points and cross my fingers that nvidia finds fast the issues of their drivers being slower in vkd3d https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/directx12-performance-is-terrible-on-linux/303207/58
If you ever wanna try again you should stick to a gaming distribution like nobara. A lot of performance can also get lost just because esync / fsync aren’t configured correctly in the distribution. This should be fixed in the near future too , once https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge/_requests/7226 is merged and people use modern kernels aka > 6.14.
Thanks again for the informations.
@MattTheProgrammer @The_Picard_Maneuver
Since you wanna Game using network anyway did you ever thought of Cloud Gaming (aka Geforce Now) ? That way you don’t have a “unsecure” device in your network. From a security standpoint even an device only used for gaming is a security risk ;)
May i ask why gaming on linux isn’t for you ?
@FreedomAdvocate there is a reason why WINE = Wine is not (a) Emulator is used. So don’t call a api reimplementation a emulation specially since other api reimplementation have shown to be better than the original implementation from the hardware provider ( example dxvk on amd > the original amd dx implementation ) . But this gets us far from the original topics , my point was if nvidia wanted to have real competition they would have included all those new fance features into official api’s like for example DX or Vulkan or any other.
They didn’t … and while not directly against the consumer it is against the consumer end.
So i have brought up another point why i call nvidia anti consumer … neither you like it or not.
