why is like 30% of the content on Lemmy star trek related? is it just a side effect of the particular communities I’m in or is it an actual platform-wide thing?
You’re absolutely right, there should be more Stargate, Firefly, and Babylon 5 content.
Man, it seems like it might fall to me to start carrying the torch for Farscape on this platform.
I know some of you weirdos prefer your scifi full of Muppets and bondage gear.
Funny you should mention Farscape, I’ve only now started watching it (I somehow missed it when it came out). I still prefer Vala Mal Doran, but I’ll take any show with Claudia Black.
Haha I had a similar experience this year. I knew of Farscape when it was airing, but I was much more of a Stargate fan in my teens. Saw it was streaming earlier this year and proceeded through 2 seasons and some change before it was made unavailable on the streaming platform I was using. I need to obtain the rest of the series so I can begin cranking out the memes.
To be clear, the weirdos who prefer their sci Fi with Muppets and bondage gear is me. I’m weirdos.
All classics, but The Expanse has them beat.
Can confirm.
So say we all!
Indeed
I’m currently watching SG1 while drinking whisky out of a Starfleet cup. More of all the sci fi and they can all exist together!
There’s an entire Star Trek instance (startrek.website) that followed the /r/daystrominstitute community from reddit during the Exodus.
Well I guess that explains why that instance has all the turbo pedantic Trekkies. /c/tenforward on lemmy world is where the fun fans are.
Star Trek is a utopia. Why wouldn’t we wish to live there?
Hey, watch it buddy
It’s like a secret dialect to unlocking conversation with people who are nerdy and struggle to maintain a conversation. Once you are aware that the IT guy/gal you are talking to has seen Star Trek then you don’t need to reach any further for other conversation topics.
Just to expand, even if you don’t watch Star Trek, asking if they think “Deep Space 9” is worth watching will yield you hours of socialising.
I’ve not had to deploy this technique for a while because eventually I watched Star Trek and loved it. Now I’m one of those people lol.
Use the voyager app or webapp. You can block communities and keywords.
I do block communities and keywords, but like i said there is a lot of star trek content in non-star trek comms as well, and the keywords thing doesn’t help if the post’s image is the only thing that mentions star trek.
Because socialism and this platform is not skewed towards the centre-right/fascism
Nerds found here
I have absolutely 0 star trek content in my feed.
Yup, same here. Using “All” is a shit show, and I never subbed to anything startrek related.
I’m sorry.
Star Trek is a franchise about a bunch of nerds striving to find a “better way” to run society
Lemmy is a platform populated by a bunch of nerds striving to find a “better way” to run social media
Not surprising that there’s overlap
I don’t know, but I fucking love it.
If you’ve got a problem with it, I suggest watching some more Star Trek.
don’t have a problem with it it’s just weird that there is so much Star Trek focused content on communities that have absolutely nothing to do with it
It’s all Linux, Star Trek, and extremely niche porn categories.
And commies
Mmmm. I love me some Trekommie porn.
It’s even in Ask Lemmy now
the venn diagram of star trek fans and terminally online Linux nerds that gravitate towards lemmy is basically a circle
… the unit circle, in fact! In this talk, I will explain how the Fediverse and rhe Federation are analagous constructs in …
where is everybody going?
It helps to keep us Engaged
Star Trek is popular among left-wing turbonerds, aka Lemmys primary demographic. There was also a big push to join Lemmy on r/StarTrek after Reddits API controversy.
It’s almost as if lemmy itself is a United Federation of Servers 🤔
