They’re talking about Elon Musk (a person who deserves a punch in the face) deserving to be punched in the face. They’re doing this in the community dedicated to talking about punching Elon Musk in the face. And you’re whining about people talking about punching Elon Musk in the face, in the community where they talk about punching Elon Musk in the face.

To quote your own words: “are you fucking retarded?”

This is like going to the Fortnite forums, asking why everyone there likes Fortnite so much, and then saying Fortnite sucks. Even if it’s true, you’re still in the wrong place.

You strike me as very young based on the attitude and misspellings so all I’ll say is that you deserved the downvotes and you should learn to read a room.

Free speech means that the state cannot curtail your expression. It doesn’t mean that you can use my servers to be an ignorant jackass.

There’s instances that don’t do downvotes. Can recommend. If someone wants to tell me something they’ll need the guts to actually say it

I disagree, but I’m not hitting the downvote button. In my opinion, the downvote button is handy when you want to see what people dislike. (and I like your position on this)

But when it comes to online discussion, I want to discuss. Hence you’re reading this. It’s a lot more fun, insightful and useful to a forum to actually talk rather than vote in my opinion.

            • I feel a well voted thread sorts opinions on any topic from popular to unpopular. Gives people reading an additional dimension to put ideas that exists outside their subjective. And doesnt effect you ability to engage in discussion. Would be nice if u could search by contraversial tho.

Then of course u have the mathematical argument of votes that defaukt u have +1, -1, 0 (neutral) if u remove downvotes u essentialy have +1/2, -1/2 with no neutral forcing you to take a position. This is because a post without downvotes is not sorted against posts with downvotes but only other posts without.

I don’t think pushing popularity to the top or bottom is a great way to promote nuance. It’s nice for cat pictures, but I don’t think it’s helpful for discussion

By “your culture”, I can only assume you mean pubescent boys. It’s an ableist slur in any culture that includes disabled people, whether you want to recognize that or not.

In your culture perhaps, but do you know the culture of the one who reads it? Did that ever occurred to you that we are on a global social media platform?

“people standing next to musk who don’t punch him are traitors to humanity” is just obviously not a serious call to violence.

Your comments are much more offensive than anything you reacted to - you overreacted to the comment and then overreacted to the ban by posting this.

Just to be fair to both sides, Elon is a piece of shit with a punchable face. I’m not advocating for violence, because I don’t believe that solves anything. But I understand why someone might feel compelled in his presence to smack him round a little, and I wouldn’t leave a comfy chair to stop them.

I still think it’s weird to be so annoyed with the number of stories posted about Musk that you join a community dedicated to complaining about it. Talk about living rent free in your head.

There’s crazy of all kinds (I won’t hesitate even for a minute to admit I’m crazy too), but gosh darn, public modlogs are great, as it is very easy to see which removals/bans are deserved, which are borderline and which are just power trips.

Lemmy is literally the same format as Reddit, except instead having some company running it all, its run in bits and pieces by the people who would largely be moderators, or at least found subreddits, on Reddit. That decentralized nature has benefits, thats why Im here after all, but being the same format and to a large degree literally the same people as are/were on Reddit, well it shouldnt be surprising to see act similar.

People make jokes about Musk fanboys, but some of the haters are absolutely deranged.
