A 27-year-old man was killed Monday after opening fire at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, authorities said.
Federal agents returned fire at the man, who had an assault rifle and was carrying a utility vest, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters Monday morning.
Rodriguez identified the suspect as Ryan Louis Mosqueda.
Law enforcement said they found another rifle and more ammunition. Rodriguez said the man’s motive is currently unknown.
One officer was injured in the shooting. Rodriguez said it was unclear if the injury was from shrapnel or a bullet.
I agree, probably some people did downvote because of the “just working” remark. It also appears that many downvotes are an emotional reaction to feeling empathy for anyone associated with ICE. The problem here is twofold:
The McAllen station isn’t ICE, and commenters here don’t seem to understand - or won’t stop feeling outrage long enough to learn - that the objectives, the methods, and the general principles between ICE and Border Patrol are vastly different. It’s like insisting that Grand Canyon and Everglades are identical because they’re both governed under the national parks system.
Seeing the fediverse slide into Reddit hive mind is cringey. People here used to be more open to respectful discussion. A mention of potential humanity in a reviled federal department wouldn’t have been brigaded. On that note, I appreciate your response.
It is a distinction without a difference at this point.
No. It’s like insisting that the SA were just as bad as the SS, even though they’re not identical.
I don’t see this as hive mind, I see it as people rightfully being overwhelmingly against the outright fascist thuggery happening in their own country.
Border patrol still participates in human trafficking, rape and murder.
Literally does not matter. Both are violently racist organizations.
