I’ve heard of people who tried to quietly (pass away to another world) due to the loss of their creative work (and succeeded), but because the platforms forbid such things, especially Reddit. Well, I found almost nothing, just mentions to be honest, but usually it was artists in certain niches who were replaced by Prompt engineers. And writers that compete with those who use AI to help generate chapters, and others.

If you have seen real cases, you can share without naming the names of such people if you want.

In any case, I’m interested in your sincere opinion.

No, I’ll believe you. I used to work as an artist during covid for a vfx studio. Previously I had done some freelance illustration and other very specialized craft work I’m not going to talk about because it’s very niche, and I’ll doxx myself.

Anyway, for a variety of reasons beyond my control all that ended, I got depression, unemployed, and while I was trying to get back on my feet we got this fucking AI explosion. All my work posted online has to have been used for training models. And I haven’t posted anything online since- in fact I haven’t found the motivation to complete a single artwork at the same level I used to. I’ve been dedicated to learning more technical things in vfx, but failed to get an industry job for over two years now. I got a couple basic customer service jobs for the first time in my life, which I’m not enjoying much and really don’t give me an opportunity to use my skills, knowledge or talents in any way, but they give a paycheck so whatever.

While AI isn’t the original reason for my unemployment, it really influences my job prospects now (negatively). It has also absolutely ruined what used to be my online network and online art community, which was essential in keeping my mind in the right place. I’m not personally aware of any artists that have committed “passage to another world” (as you say- is this because of word filters?) because of this, but as I’ve explained I’ve withdrawn from my previous circles so I wouldn’t be surprised artists getting triggered into self harm because of AI. We artists tend to be more sensitive and react more strongly than other people under certain circumstances.

AI and all its consequences really weigh heavily against my mental health - it discourages true artistic expression, which in turn exacerbates isolation and a feeling of pointlessness. Yes it’s absolutely a reason people would want to un alive themselves.

I understand you and I wonder what you will say to this – yes, it is true that the only salvation for those who are strong in spirit is the distribution of their works in narrow circles, not just niches, but completely protected networks with trust, for now this is in closed Internet networks, but soon AI and moderation will begin to put pressure on them, you can consider this option, but for the truly strong and stubborn people. I’m interested what do you think about this?

I’m not sure I’m understanding you correctly but yes the way art is distributed will change as artists adapt. At the moment, installation, performance and gallery sorts of artists are the least affected by AI and I think some kind of technology or mechanism will eventually emerge for digital artists to distribute their work ( and for traditional artists to be able to safely share it online). I don’t know if this will be a closed network, and I’m not sure what you mean by “truly strong and stubborn” though.

they aren’t engineers. that requires degrees and proper certifications which don’t exist.

Well yeah lol… and it won’t be because it’s a temporary job until the AI learns to do everything itself, and I called them that out of politeness.
