Feels like an opportunity for a Linux advertisement: Linux is awesome. Rarely force-feeds you stuff. And while at it, change email providers as well. The big (cloud) services like Microsoft and Google aren’t great. Never have been, and AI is just the most recent top of the iceberg.
To be honest, I (personally) am fine with that. I remember the times before SystemD and it just got so much easier managing the services and dependencies and so on. I genuinely prefer running SystemD on my servers and computers at home. And I don’t have a strong opinion on my display server, I just use whatever works. But all of that is just my perspective.

E-mail is the original fediverse!
I miss Usenet.
BTW, does anyone remember Google Wave? That was actually a pretty neat idea, so of course they killed it.
Sure, I remember that. Was transfered to the Apache Software Foundation and they never really touched it again. It looked super promising and fancy.
The only thing Linux force feeds you is Wayland and SystemD. But there’s disros without them.
