Such a cynical cash-grab attempt at monetizing a platform that is supposed to be designed for open access. The whitepaper doesn’t explain the way in which these crypto tokens are supposed to promote the goals of the SciHub project, just nebulous hand-waving about “rewarding the sharing of files.”
After a decade of crypto pump and dump scams, you’d think it would take more than a poorly written, technically bereft whitepaper to scam scientists of all people.
Shame on these charlatans.
I can’t read the announcement since the link is dead.
But everytime I hear about cryptocurrency and ICO, I immediately assume it’s a scam, ponzi scheme, or another kind of ethically dubious scheme.
Sorry, cap’n, that ain’t the way to do it. You shall be marooned with one Bottle of Powder, one Bottle of Water, one small Arm, and Shot.
Dead link
Can you access https://sci-hub.se/ ? It may be blocked in your area. You can find a list of mirrors to try on their Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sci-Hub
I also tried.
Can’t access the .se site currently (I’ve sometimes been able to). A mirror site which responded didn’t have the PDF. So I can’t form an opinion about the subject currently. :)
In my experience, linking to Sci-Hub is like that… like a lottery.
