Idk if ancient Rome was ever a swamp? It was famous for it’s 7 hills. Unless you mean Ravenna then sure it’s 100% swamp.
Rome was infamously swampy. Malaria was rampant for just that reason. The Field of Mars itself was pretty swampy.
Rome being built only on its seven hills is a common misconception. Moreover it has also always been in the space in between and towards the river Tiber.
It’s smart. Draining the capital swamp ahead of time prevents dipshits from successfully running on a promise of draining the swamp (exceptions apply.)
