The fourth Reich is rising in the states, if anything.
The fourth Reich is rising in the states, if anything.
The issue is 3 years old, I honestly dont know why it is being dredged up again. I also dont know why any of this matters, use something else if you care about the dev beliefs some years ago.
I’m not saying we should shutter all the others or make a Linux for profit corporation, just that if there is a sort of “base” Linux that can be used and referenced as universally as windows, with the same capability, stability and compatibility, catering to the same crowd of dumbest possible user, that would go a long way in my opinion in getting Linux more widely adopted.
Dont forget that the vast majority of users either doesnt know Linux, distrusts Linux, has heard rumors at any point in time about some feature or component not working as perfectly as under windows, is uninterested in computers beyond their daily usage function, or finds themselves in a social circle or job environment hostile to Linux.
What Linux needs to get widely adopted is settle for one central distro, iron out all bugs and compatibility issues and do a bunch of testing with windows users to determine what differences they are confused by. The goal must be to create total feature and compatibility parity with windows, and make the whole process so incredibly simple that even absolute morons with zero interest in computers can both use it instinctively and not miss anything their windows used to do. Then run a massive adoption campaign.
Now I know many aspects of this are directly opposed to the fos ethos, but if Linux ever wants to claim market share they need to spend big on it and pick up the users where they are; in a place of zero user ability and a lot of ignorance.
I mean, I also acknowledged them as philosophical dilemmas in another comment, but I suppose it is my own fault for not clarifying that in the first.
Very interesting stuff, thank you!
Albeit the post seems a bit esoteric for lemmyshitpost without the extra context
Well obviously it is a philosophical dilemma, but the dozens of ironic variations created for memes gave it a different purpose as meme template.
Otherwise it would be a lot less well known i would guess, under normal circumstances you encounter this perhaps once or twice during your education unless you actively take an interest in such musings. Due to the memes I probably come across the drawing once per week if not more
Not op, no idea either. Best I can make of it is some sort of surrealist fifth level multi layered reference to several memes at once? The only one I know is the trolley problem one
Having the pixel buds myself, I feel your pain. Do a little bit of physical activity and at least one side gets loose and slippery.
I found that I simply dont have symmetrical ear canals, I use the mid size plug on one and the smallest plug on the other ear. That way they seem to fit somewhat reliably.
Dont you worry, mint provides a detailed step by step tutorial on how to do things:

My mind went here:
Nah just blanket ban that shit. Residential housing as investment objects need to die asap. If the locals want to become part of the hospitality industry they can open a hotel.
Oh my god he is wearing a little Catset for his ears 👀
I didn’t say that they would, just that they very well might try to pull the same on another country they believe they have historical claim to, possibly one that would be more strategically threatening to the west. And that we should be prepared for the next time, so we can provide better military aid, quicker, and in competitive quantities.
I believe we have been sitting comfortably under the protection of NATO for too many years.
The people are accustomed to peace and quiet, spending big on military is generally unpopular with large parts of the population because the USA do it anyway. I think it will need a larger wake up call to make people understand these serene times are ending, probably when russia sets its eyes on the next former possession.
We must protect ourselves, we cannot rely on the states keeping us safe any more, they have become increasingly politically polarized and weary of their global police role, which is also affecting their foreign policies. While Biden and the democrats are probably a reliable ally as before, the ruspublicans with trump have shown that they are not.
So you’re saying the people being systematically oppressed and marginalized are turning radical in their helplessness? How rude of them. They should just shut up and go into the gas.
Lemmy is largely nerdy, linux loving leftist early tech adopters. In a sense, we sit in an echo chamber until the platform becomes more widely adopted, even though it doesn’t feel that way.
How it always works: someone keeps it and the public gets nothing, with the military getting a new toy they can spend more public money on.
Certainly, I am German myself. Everything that happens in us politics happens here as well some while later. I just didn’t agree with the suggestion that it is Germany again “leading the way”.
The real reason is the russian digital warfare campaign on the West that has been ongoing for years, while our societies are entirely unprepared and helpless against this new type of conflict and have allowed Russia to prop up sycophantic far right parties all over the West, beginning with the trump operation.
