The post was https://lemmy.ml/post/27600301 on !antitrust@lemmy.ml

When opening the link, it popped up something I didn’t even get to see because it created crashed my browser.

I returned to the post and commented "Jesus, the pop-up on that site is brutal " that’s it, that’s the exact quote because I use an app that stores things from specific sources that are typed in

Annnnd banned

For being annoying.

Because the mod didn’t like their link being criticised.

I ain’t even mad, I’m just amazed to see a PTB in the wild like that.

Clicked out of curiosity but no pop up here. Highly recommend uBlock Origin OP, and possibly a DNS solution like NextDNS/Adguard/PiHole. Would solve this problem.

it appears substackcdn.com is the offending domain, uBlock filters the pop up even without it being fully blocked.

So because you disliked the website’s popup under a mods post, the mod got butthurt, deleted your comment and banned you? Just for saying you don’t like the popup and nothing else??

    Lol, PTB.

If you wanted to know who it is.

Edit: removed picture apparently pulling mod names is against the rules of this comm. But that community does have one sole moderator, so take that for what you will.

Inclined to say PTB just because being annoying isn’t a valid reason for a ban but what did you actually say?

    PTB

This is why mods shouldn’t moderate their own posts.

In a more general sense, this is an excellent demonstration of why communism doesn’t work.

    Change my mind

I won’t be convinced communism is viable until I see it working, but this doesn’t really have anything to do with communism at all, honestly.

I won’t be convinced anarchism is viable until I see it working, but this doesn’t really have anything to do with anarchism at all, honestly.

so since we’ve eliminated a political system that has literally never been used beyond local mutual aid groups and you don’t agree with the way that Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, China, or the USSR implemented communism I assume you’ll be leaving your armchair tomorrow to implement something that will give us “solarpunk”

Well, my point is that any system where it depends on some all-powerful person who’s just going to do the right thing is going to fail.

Rules for good conversation with others are great. Putting one person in omnipotent charge of who gets to talk and having that person also participating in the conversation (and telling that they’re imbued with the justice of the state and they can do no wrong, because they have the power of communism) fails in comically obvious ways.

Economic justice is great. Putting one central government in omnipotent charge of who gets the money yada yada yada you get the idea.

You’re just describing a dictatorship. This is an unrelated political system, except insofar as some fools were tricked into thinking that dictatorships would lead to communism.

You do realize you are exactly describing the current fascist authoritarian regime that is now deliberately and systemically destroying the freedoms of the United States?

Does that make cadet bonespurs krasnov a communist? His kgb code name does come from the Russian word for “red.”

Yes, and we’re about to get to see in real time why it is a terrible idea. No Americans on Lemmy have ever lived through a real economic collapse.

Donald Trump is not a communist, and to even suggest that is absurd. Please at least try to understand what communism means before you apply the label to someone/something.

I never said Trump was a communist. What I meant to say was that he, the USSR, and lemmy.ml all share one essential feature: “Give me unchecked power and I’ll use it to make everything right for all the people, for I am a wise and benevolent lord. I’m on the people’s team, your team, and everything I do, I do for the people. So you better be on my team too.”

Ok, but those are not the communist features of those communities

One is economic system and the other is political system

To change economic system fast, a political system in a dictatorship style, is the most efficient but most destructive way.

Lol, communism is not the same as dictatorship. See America as example, clearly a capitalist country, but as well, having soon a dictatorship.

Political system is not the same as economic system

You can have a capitalist dictatorship and you can have a democratic communism.

Communism has nothing to do with moderating their own actions, I don’t know how you got to that.

Like in America, you have e.g. boing moderating itself and anywhere people say “the market will handle it” results in a monopoly ultimately moderating itself.

I think is more a demonstration why pure capitalism doesn’t work, but needs to be regulated.
