A coalition of civil liberties and immigrant rights groups have sued the Trump administration for detaining migrants incommunicado at the offshore prison camp in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, after they were initially taken into custody in the United States.

If only one of the several Democratic presidents that had been in power since Gitmo was established had gone ahead and closed it down like they said they wanted to.

I’m not. I’m blaming them for not doing anything to prevent the actions of a republican president.

And for not doing enough to help people who are really struggling, and for taking bribes and for insider trading, and for being for corporations and money over regular people, and for war mongering, and for not giving people a path toward citizenship, and for not undoing the post-9/11 war power bullshit, and for not advocating for voting reform, and for shipping our jobs overseas, and for their lack of transparency, etc etc etc.

Do I need to say this everytime someone gives a little criticism where it’s due? The good guys are doing a TERRIBLE job.

Ftr I vote Democrat in every fucking election, and I hate this goddamned party. I just hate them significantly less than the other party.

Get rid of fptp. Get rid of the 2 party system. Get us an actual democracy. Fucking hell, people. YES the Democratic party is fucked the fuck up. That doesn’t mean I’m voting for anyone else, but they goddamn suck ass.

Yeah, why didn’t Obama just overrule Congress and do it anyway when they stopped him? We like when presidents do what they want even when congress stops them! /s

During the first two years of Obama’s presidency Congress was also controlled by the Democrats.

You think Obama didn’t accomplish anything? He was some kind of completely helpless nobody in the face of a Republican party that didn’t control anything for two years of his term?

This is exactly the reason the Democratic party is being dumped on so hard these days, and deservedly so. They don’t even do the right thing when they are handed the power to do it on a silver plate. They insist on “compromise” with a party that brooks none.

Shutting down Guantanamo would have been effectively irreversible since it’s Cuban land. Cuba doesn’t recognize the American claim that they have a lease on it, so as soon as it’s shut down it’s never coming back.

You realize there’s plenty of blame to go around, that it’s possible for more than one “side” in this to be doing bad things and making mistakes?

Might argue that the power ceded to the president over the last 2 decades is the real issue, so checks notes all of them are at fault.

If someone breaks into my house after I didn’t lock the door, all the anger should be directed at the thief. The first reaction shouldn’t be to cast blame on me for having an unlocked door. My door shouldn’t have to be locked even if it’s common sense to do so. The actual act to scrutinize should ONLY be the theft.

If someone breaks into my house and there’s a huge amount of evidence showing who did it, and I present that evidence to the police, and they do nothing and then the thief comes back and breaks in again, I’m going to be super mad at the police. They failed at their job.

Mad at the thief too, of course. But also mad at the police. I can be mad at two different groups.

So if someone was sexually assaulted before it’s ok to ask them what they wore if it happens again?

If someone breaks into your house after you heard they wanted to for over a decade, and you had just been looking at door locks yesterday but decided it wasn’t necessary, the fault still lies with the thief, but you still ignored a clear and obvious threat until after it became realized, which is pretty fucking stupid.

So you can ask a woman what she was wearing if you think there was a reasonable expectation of being assaulted?
