The phrase is puzzling for people trying to understand it as a policy goal. The United States already produces more oil than ever before.

The phrase taps into a cultural vein that runs as deep as America’s fossil fuels.

Plus, renewables are trending to be cheaper than fossil fuels, and actually reduce our dependence on foreign nations.

If the Republicans weren’t the definition of hypocrites, this would appeal to their values.
