Simply put: why care about their point of view? Google does not have your best interests in mind, often the opposite. There’s no where else to get almost all of the content, why do without or waste time with ads in this short life.

Does YouTube have competition? Your line of inquiry doesn’t mean much if the content is only on YouTube.

Less an expectation and more of an ideal standard to strive for. Which I would think it’s in our best interest as future customers to have the highest expectations.

Notice how you said “a problem with” and the article said “implying that”. There is some ambiguity. The issue is narrowed down but still not explicit. Hopefully we will get even more specifics later.

Away from the all-in-one solution browser to using apps for each discrete feature. Like using a video player already on the OS to play videos or using a Gemini capsule to navigate to text-only “sites”.

Browsers are an unsustainable mess of reckless feature creep. At some point we may all transition from using websites at all.

I’m aware you can intentionally try to make source code unreadable and making open source software effectively proprietary but I do not know of any examples of people doing that. Do you?

It’s easier to just put up with a small change you dislike rather than search for an alternative and then learn it. Companies do this on purpose to avoid losing too many users while maximizing taking advantage of them. They can do this when they’re the ones in control of the software running on your computer/phone.

What is it called when people do this?

Proprietary software, because this doesn’t happen when the users can remove the anti-features. You don’t need to personally be a programmer but you do need to find like-minded people. A free software alternative to proprietary programs probably already exist (free as in freedom) but they may not work exactly like the proprietary one, or not yet be complete.
