Indeed, but this particular sub-thread started with an OP giving advice to older people, and is now older people responding to that comment. These aren’t top level comments, so let the conversation go where it may.
As a 40+ person, I strongly agree with my young colleague here.
Listen to what you want, kids. Enjoy it. And don’t let anyone tell you you’re wrong about it.
As Common once put it, “If I don’t like it, I don’t like it, that don’t mean that I’m hatin’.”
As someone else said, if you back yourself to get something else later then it could be the right move.
Only thing I’d be concerned about is the idea that they snuck the contract thing in - it would depend exactly what you mean by that, but if they were trying to conceal it from you then that might be a bad sign. If it was just a miscommunication or whatever, then hopefully all good.
Good luck, whatever you do!
PS - forgot to say that I quit a permanent job to go freelance and it’s been a big improvement in my life. I work from home, make a bit more money, and can be much more flexible. Downside is less income security, and as a result less favourable terms on things like mortgages. Also, I have been lucky that I basically get regular work from a small agency and have done for a number of years, so I rarely need to go hustling for clients.
Stage manager? I’m not one myself, but I used to work in a theatre, and those people earn their money for sure. It’s an amazing talent to keep everything running so smoothly, and it rarely gets the credit it deserves.
Ghostbusters.
Disagree, I think 2001 is perfect. Yes it’s slow, but that’s intentional, it’s part of the feeling of the film.
Modern standards don’t really apply, because I don’t think anyone nowadays is trying to do what Kubrick was, nor (obviously) was he trying to live up to any standards of future movie making.
Each to their own of course, but wanted to put a friendly counterpoint :-)
Preference.
Who cares if people call it “woke”? The kind of people who would get themselves in a tizzy over that sort of thing aren’t worth bothering about, and they certainly shouldn’t be pandered to.
If you have a story to tell, and characters to present, then tell it and present them your way, no matter what others think. Be true to your own creative instincts, and be judged on them, rather than trying to fit what others will accept.
I haven’t, but I will definitely watch that, thanks! 👍
Ha ha, fair enough. I see I’ve met someone as stubborn as I am ;-)
Veronica Mars, Ironside, Chuck…
Arguably Fawlty Towers too?
Ha ha, fair enough, I admire your determination to make this rule stick!
Another counterpoint though - Quincy ME. Oh course you could argue that it’s not all that good even with Jack Klugman’s crime solving coroner.
Oh, another one - Father Ted!
I only ever saw that Royal Family video of his, and it was enough for me never to seek out any more.
Homage maybe, but not a spinoff :-)
Yeah, fair enough. It’s not a joke that has aged well, certainly.
Isn’t she just doing that to try and stop Steve Holt from being attracted to her mum instead of to her?
I don’t think she was trying to get people to be nasty to her particularly, just trying to distract Steve.
That link doesn’t work for me, so incase anyone has the same issue… [Project Orion](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_(nuclear_propulsion\))
Trick is to add a backslash before the two closing brackets, like this:
