  • sort of. it was more like head tracking. so you move your head and you could look around your cockpit. It was essentially a poor mans way of head tracking. there was an app you could download to your phone and your pc that would connect to each other. then with your phones gyroscope it would track your head movements. So then I would take the phone and strap it to the top of my headset with like a hair tie. it worked for a few games. War Thunder, MechWarrior Online, Star Citizen, pretty much any sort of sim it would work.

  • they watched a youtube video by a guy from India on how to unlock it.

Seriously though, some of those videos actually work. I had a Samsung Galaxy that I got from some flea market for like $20. it was locked due to the FRP so I didn’t have access to the email or phone number. I just wanted to use it as a headset mounted gyroscope thing for war thunder (yeah, ask me about that one). Watched a youtube vid by some guy in India who went through the most bizarre way to unlock the phone and it worked. I was scanning QR codes and installing the samsung file manager app and a bunch of weird crap and was surprised that it worked. Dudes on reddit were deadset that it was impossible, impossible I tells ya, to bypass the FRP. it is possible. and you don’t need to download any of the scammy ‘unlock your phone’ programs either.

  • and even the challenging part doesn’t really have to be that hard and can quickly be figured out. either via a package installer or it can be as simple as git clone <insert git repo> then makepkg -si

I mean with Arch and AUR it’s that easy. worse comes to worse if it’s not in Octopi or AUR then download the exe, wrap it in wine, and that should do it. I’ve been using Linux for almost a month now and I think the only thing I just couldn’t get working was some Mod package for a game and that’s only cause I’m lazy and gave up on it but it would work if I was dedicated to get it working.

  • ICQ and IRC were older and more popular just before AIM. I first got online in 96 or 97 and then it was all mIRC and ICQ (Hell I still remember my ICQ number off the top of my head, 18982172) then I’d say around 99/00 it transitioned primarily to AIM with a bit of ICQ and other random chatrooms that were “cooler” than IRC like “The Palace” which was essentially irc but with avatars.

But then with Trillium or like Pigeon it all transitioned to that and in a weird way message boards circled back around and replaced chat rooms. Things just gradually got more and more isolated. Then Myspace and eventually Facebook replaced all of that and eventually discord just replaced everything.

I don’t use Discord, I can’t stand it. I miss the days of IRC and ICQ.

  • I just want to follow up and say “thank you so much!” I took the dive and partioned out space for Linux Mint. played around with it for a bit and said “fuck it, I love this thing” and did a fresh install on my laptop deleting windows 11.

Holy crap this thing has improved my laptop so much. it’s so damn fast, boots up quicklly and believe it or not my battery lasts longer now. I just spent hours customizing how it looks, it’s fun, it’s great.

Also I was easilly about to install steam, elden ring, Final Fantasy XIV and even World of Warcraft and they all work, and run, better on this machine now.

WoW was actually pretty easy to get going in all honesty. Instead of installing WoW directly on Litrus instead you install Battle.net via Litrus and it simply does the rest, EVEN going that route allowed me to install other blizzard games like Hearthstone without doing anything special.

My only beef right now is I’m having issues customizing the panel like I want. Tried installing polybar and got in a bit over my head with i3wm but I’m sure I’ll figure that stuff out soon. Got a cool app launcher going that makes things so much easier, even changed the shell and got zsh going which is great.

I love it, absolutely love it and won’t be going back to Windows ever. I imagine once I get a handle of Mint I might switch to a different distro like Arch (I love the look of that and how people have customized it) but for now this is perfect.

  • I used to live in the Southwest US like 20+ years ago and went to high school there. ICP was huge at my school but once people graduated they stopped listening to them for whatever reason.

for where I lived It’d be join the Navy, work at grocery store, work at a call center, or live in a trailer park and die.

  • “I hate seeing homeless people trying to cope with being homeless”

ok so do something about it, vote for people who will fix it, donate money to places that will help, volunteer at food banks, community centres, soup kitchens, be the change you want to see.

you: no, I prefer to complain

    you’re part of the problem.

    “then idk what to do.”

good lord you’re an idiot. and the terrifying thing is you procreated.
