fractal defederation!
piefed.social automatically defederated from discuss.privacyguides.net when lemmy.world did.
piefed.social has now also manually defederated from discuss.privacyguides.net. All instances that follow piefed.social’s defederations will automatically do the same.
In 2023 alone, USAID provided assistance to 130 countries, disbursing $71.9 billion in foreign aid – the majority of which was spent on economic development (27 per cent), followed by health (22.3 per cent) and humanitarian assistance (21.7 per cent) to other nations.
Between 2017 and 2020, USAID responded to more than 240 natural disasters and crises around the world – from famines in the Republic of South Sudan to conflict in Afghanistan, Yemen and the Lake Chad basin.
From 2012 to 2017, it supported more than five million survivors of gender-based violence through services including medical care, counselling and legal help. Such care is vital considering that one in three women will experience gender-based violence in their lifetime.
And in 2016 alone, the organisation provided food assistance to more than 53 million people across 47 countries.

Much better to add features to your software that make it unusable in totalitarian situations.
For example
…and so on. The possibilities are endless.
If you don’t want to see it, you’re not going to.
Good to hear that, cheers 👍
Yes, that’s done. When you block an instance it is the equivalent of a user-level defederation.
It still federates, yes.
I wasn’t clear - “I’ve made it so that when” should have been “Just now I’ve made to so that when”. The notification(s) you received are from before the change.
Yep, good points.
FYI feeds have significantly expanded recently. Try https://piefed.social/f/forumverse
This is the opposite of what you asked for, but anyway.
I’ve made it so that when you block an instance it blocks the comments too. You won’t get a notification with a link that doesn’t lead anywhere because there won’t BE any comments (from that instance).
Also in the bottom right of every post teaser there is a ‘Join’ link which subscribes you to that post’s community. This will encourage people to subscribe to communities and not browse ‘All’.
Yes. I expect users on non-English instances are quite careful about this because if they don’t then most people using their language won’t see their content.
“a documented history of migrant abuse” is such a nice way to put it.
A quick search for “libya migrant mass graves” brings up this - https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/02/1159951
That’s not ‘migrant abuse’. That’s somewhere on the spectrum between genocide and mass murder.
Post flair federates between instances now.
Keyword filters only block posts, not comments or communities.
Rather than using ‘All’ I recommend using Topics and Feeds to find interesting new communities and subscribe to them.
If people are feeling the need to browse ‘all’ as a way to discover which communities they like, PieFed has failed to provide a proper way to discover communities. We will continue to improve on this as time goes on.
