Cake day: June 23rd, 2023

  • Well, that depends on how well we manage to get out from under the shadow of the boomers and bring our ideals to the next generations.

It’s too late for that. The last meaningful bill that got passed was Obamacare, and even that was watered down and didn’t do much to solve the healthcare crisis.

Whatever government benefits we are holding on to will be gutted in the next four years, and American democracy will be dismantled within the next decade.

Welcome to the final goal of late-stage capitalism: anarcho-capitalism. We’ll be paying for our fire departments and police protections before you know it.

  • Star Wars, Ghostbusters, the Mario Movie, the Breakfast Club, the Princess Bride, it goes on and on and on. The heroes were all rebelling against some ignorant authority that either didn’t understand the damage it was able to do or didn’t care about hurting those who had no power. As a result, when I was coming up my generation felt very much against the established status quo. Even the kid-targeted stuff in the early 90s, it was all gross-out humor and struggling against adult authority in favor of personal autonomy. Nickelodeon takes over your school. As a teenager it was grunge and punk and everything being ‘extreme’.

And what did Gen X get out of it? To be so forgotten as a generation that everybody else thinks we’re Boomers!

Ask anybody who’s not a Gen Xer to list out the current generations and they will, without fail, say: “Boomers, Millennials, Zoomers, and whatever Alphas are going to turn into”

  • I don’t. I also don’t believe we’re ever going to get another (fair) election, thanks to your inaction. The rule of law is finished, because:

    • A convicted felon, in the middle of four separate criminal indictments
    • Known to have raped his wife
    • Raped a 14-year-old, probably raped a bunch of others with Epstein
    • Bragged about sexually assaulting many other women
    • Incited the Jan 6th riot to storm the White House and threaten to kill the vice president, as well as many other Congresspeople
    • Stole boxes and boxes of top secret CIA documents
    • Send many of those top secrets to foreign agents, including Putin, which got CIA agents killed
    • Praises dictators and the way they rule out in the open
    • Put three Supreme Court justices who are currently dismantling whatever judicial ideals the government has

That guy, he got voted president. If he can get re-elected after doing all of that shit, instead of being put in prison, then the rule of law is finished. We don’t really have a functional government that punishes criminals. We’re on the level of Brazil in terms of government corruption now, and quickly sliding into Turkey or Nazi Germany by the next decade.

Be sure to thank your fellow trans Beehaw Lemmy users [he/him] for deciding that your protest non-vote is more important than their lives, while they have their medical rights stripped, and their faces curb-stomped by an already-hostile public.

  • False equivalency will be the death of our country. The media has been pushing this line for decades, even when it has become clear that the GOP has been getting more and more extreme during that time.

Even Jon Stewart immediately started pushing this garbage that none of this really matters, and we can just live our lives like it was just any other election. Meanwhile, all of his colleagues in late night media has been fighting hard to combat the disinformation in their own way, and this is how he rewards them.

Hey, Jon… in the words of Jon Stewart: “Go fuck yourself!”

  • Macnas is a performing arts group that had staged Halloween parades in Dublin since 2013. The COVID-19 pandemic stopped those parades until last year, but the group had not scheduled one in 2024.

That seems like a pretty f-ing important detail. The rest of the article and headline makes it look like a bunch of people showed up because of some random parade announcement, instead of people who were expecting an annual event and got some details from the wrong source.
