  • tech has nothing to do with him being a piece of shit,

We don’t call tech bros tech bros because they’re technical. We call them tech bros because they are pieces of shit.

TV Tropes has the best description of them.

A Tech Bro is someone connected with the technology and business industry; cultivating an image of intelligence mixed with money, counterculture attitude and social savvy. Whether they are actually hip, business literate, anti-authority or even intelligent in any form depends on the individual. Their goal is to charm investors into funding their project, so some degree of false presentation is necessary. Typically they are young men in their twenties and early thirties, insisting on casual clothing, shaggy hair and Perma-Stubble. Some of them are keen on partying and getting up to wacky hijinx, and are easily distracted during business meetings. Their speech is a blend of Technobabble and corporate buzzwords designed to attract investors, self-promoting at every opportunity. They see themselves as leaders, even visionaries, and they want you to know it.

And Apartheid tech bro up there is their god.

edit: I have to mention that I have no idea where anyone gets the idea that tech bros are in any way “countercultural” or “anti-authoritarian” - I’ve never seen a tech bro that’s anti-capitalist, which means they are as drenched in the politics of bootlicking as the rest. I guess the only difference is that they perceive themselves to be deserving of having their boots licked - despite the fact that they will happily lick the boots of Musk, Gates and the rest themselves.

  • It’s been done before… before the “Red Scare” there was the “Black Scare” - it’s where the trope of the “bomb-throwing anarchist” comes from.

It’s a valid tactic - but if it’s not carefully done and well thought through, it can end up creating a lot of blowback… as it did for the anarchist Alexander Berkman when he attempted to assassinate the capitalist Henry Clay Frick (hint - don’t assassinate a capitalist during a strike… if the striking workers thought that’d work they’d probably do it themselves).

  • How would making the few happier at the expense of the majority be increasing stability and reinforcing the status quo?

Very simple… it’s literally recent history. FDR’s New Deal (for instance) enriched the white working class and thereby separating it from the non-white working class, making any kind of class consciousness in the US very unlikely and preventing a repeat of the labor movements that rocked the imperialist nations in the aftermath of WW1 and the subsequent Influenza pandemic. The Apartheid-regime in South Africa essentially did the same thing without bothering with all the liberal propaganda.

It worked. In both states, it created a white “middle class” that was loyal to the status quo - you can witness that loyalty in it’s full glory right here on lemmy.world. Neoliberals (as personified by Reagan and Thatcher) easily manipulated this loyalty to usher in the dismantling of New Deal-style Keynesian economics, leading to the deprivations you see in the US right now.
