I did not know Krita does not have Wayland though, I used to use it with Wayland without any problems whatsoever so not sure what that means

A bit of story.
My mother says her eldest brother was like the evil on earth. He raped her younger sisters, used to beat up all of them – his younger brother grew up with serious mental issues because of that, and now we are having issues trying to get him into an asylum because, again, third world problems - stole the house and land of their parents (which wasn’t a lot, but left my mother and her sisters with nothing when their father died) and even treated violently my grandmother. I never got to know my grandparents because they died when my mother was young.
So my mother says one night my grandmother was really ill and this person (I have never seen him, not even in pictures) arrived home and beat her up and went to sleep. Then allegedly “the spirits” (“las almas”) came when he was asleep and beat him up so hard he screamed and woke everyone up - like they could see how “the spirits” lifted him across the room and hit him violently, but never could see any of those “spirits”.
A few weeks or months after that my grandmother died and all of my aunts had to get miserable jobs trying to survive and this bastard still showed up from time to time to steal the few bucks they could earn.
Eventually all of them (except my uncle) got married and all of them but the elder sister never saw him ever again.
Now I’m atheist and don’t believe in this kind of stuff, but the saying is that “the souls” do that kind of thing to really awful people. So if Carson’s incident is true (and if “the souls” exist and are able to do that), now you may have a possible explanation for that.

Studied electronic engineering for two years - the group I went in was like 111 dudes and 7 girls. Some dudes enrolled in electives from faculties like nursery or dentistry because the boys/girls ratio there was inversely proportional as in our faculty.
Me too. Was unemployed for 2.5 years and completely broke. My own sister bullied me about that to no end on a daily basis. Lost almost all of my hair in less than six months (didn’t even hit 30 with hair in my head and no, my parents nor grandparents never went bald). But somehow the COVID thing brought inner peace, a stable job, and pretty much could turn my life upside down.
From my ignorant point of view Microsoft had in its very own hands a solid competitor to Facebook but ended doing absolutely nothing with it.
I still can recall the MSN/Hotmail profiles - it was kind of a news feed that recorded all your statuses from MSN (or you could add your own there). Your contacts could add comments on those. I seem to recall at some point you could add posts with pictures too.
But all of that just disappeared when they ditched MSN.
They could’ve beat Facebook in its own game easily, as they had the advantage of their huge userbase - but somehow they missed on that too.

Can’t answer for all your requirements but for the gist of it I’m guessing you’d like KDE. I guess you’d like Kate as your text editor and Krename as your file rename tool. It comes with some Windows-y keyboard shortcuts set by default as Win+L to lock the screen (and ask for your password).
Can’t tell about ffmpeg nor mpv GUI frontends as I’m more of a cli person but I seem to recall there are several KDE/Qt frontends for mpv and it won’t be surprising if there’s one for ffmpeg too.
As for your distro question I’d try Fedora if I were you, though you might feel adventurous and try with Arch (and surely you’ll learn a thing or two about Linux and your computer).
Other than that, the nice people in here surely can give you better options.

I’m old and my gateway to Linux was Ubuntu 5.10 via a live CD they gave me at uni back in 2006.
I got to experience it when they used to take seriously their “Linux for human beings” motto.
Those were GNOME 2 and kernel 2.x times. Albeit the limitations of the technology (40GB HDD disk, 256 MB RAM, an Intel Xeon processor which I can’t remember it’s exact specs) it felt way snappier (no pun intended) than Windows. You could felt they cared about it in that brown visual theme, the icons, the sounds, the way the documentation was phrased - you could feel the Ubuntu in it.
I ended wiping my entire docs drive while trying to install it but got to learn lots of stuff and feel like my computer was actually mine.
Same as for many people my generation, I switched to Linux thanks to that Ubuntu. It’s really sad what it has become and the poor, selfish decisions they have taken, but still it keeps holding a special place in the Linux memories.
We had the same ISP at home for about 16 years. Internet runs over copper cable along with the landline phone service.
On April this year they sent a letter saying they are deprecating copper lines and switching everything to optic fiber, but for some reason our neighborhood is not getting it so they were supposed to terminate the contract and stopping their services on April 2025.
But they did that past Wednesday, all of a sudden, without notifying us whatsoever. They are not answering why are doing this either. On Wednesday I called them to ask what was going on and they told me they were going to reconnect on Thursday morning, but at 4:00 pm it was still the same. Called them again and said they were not reconnecting us because fuck you.
So I can’t visit most of the web right now and I fear I might be booted from the WFH job. The couple of things I use frequently that are still working somehow are Feedly and Lemmy. Tried to switch DNS addresses at the router trying to circumvent this to no avail.
Heading to the nearest library in a couple of hours to talk with my boss.
It says it uses webkit, so does Epiphany, so most probably it’s based on it.
