The Democratic Party cannot fail us.
It is only us who can fail the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party cannot fail us.
It is only us who can fail the Democratic Party.
The main lesson is “don’t be an incumbent”.
Don’t be an incumbent when people don’t like the way things are going.
When people do like the way things are going, yes be an incumbent.
She doesn’t read palms as far as I know.
I’ve never heard anyone cogently criticizing her on the issues.
Most voters who suffered from the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment and the subsequent “controlled explosion” that poisoned the shit out of that area voted to deregulate everything. Trump even went there after the poisoning and did a rally.
You’re assuming a lot: elections, peaceful transfer of power, Congress composition, even the unity of the states is an assumption at this point. If King Trump gets in, many states will refuse to cooperate (if you think this is too wild, many locales and at least one state already refuse to cooperate with ICE, Texas was at one point not cooperating with the Feds on their Southern border). What happens after that is anyone’s guess.
Basically if you’re willing to kiss the right rings, the barrier is not too high.
If you intend to be a populist and serve the broad interests of most of your constituents, the barrier to entry is sky high.
Ban them from accepting straw donations, ban CPACs, ban PACs, ban revolving doors, ban stock ownership, enforce the emoluments clause, ban all the foreign money from the USA politics, and institute a campaign finance reform.
It’s almost like the billionaire-owned media was busy manufacturing consent and it was going somewhat well for some time.
I mean Biden has had a series of the senility moments caught on tape, but before the presidential debate the billionaire-owned media successfully manufactured consent by telling the voters to ignore their lying eyes. Not all the senior moments were equally bad, so plenty of plausible sounding excuses were generated.
After the presidential debate the reality of Biden’s condition was so blatantly exposed, the consent-making machine panicked and started furiously backtracking.
This situation isn’t a joke because a lot of the billionaires will be negatively affected once Trump becomes King in November. With his King powers Trump can make CNN and MSNBC cease to exist. CNN and MSNBC don’t give two hoots about journalism or about holding power to account (they’d have to hold their own billionaire owners to account then), but they do care massively about their own safety. They are scared now because they no longer believe Biden has a chance.
And all this insanity happened because none of the players in this story trust the democratic process. None of them trust the American people. None of the involved players respect the voters. They all believe they know what’s best for us.
If we had a real open and democratic primary none of this would be happening.
Yea, that’s my mistake. I should have said “have not done yet” without assuming he won’t do anything.
Oh yea, which risks and consequences have you engineered for your truant representatives that they continue ignoring you?
Biden has gone against the railroad strike in the past and I have not forgiven that.
I thought the last time Biden appeared on TV was the ABC News interview. Did I miss another appearance? I apologize if I did.
I am going to demand the world from my president. Always.
Assuming the most benign motivations is copium and hopium.
If voting is all you do, that will kick the can down the road and buy some time (I assume a Democrat will win), but will not change the dynamics at play.
Buying time is good but insufficient to keep our democracy.
If you engineer meaningful risks and consequences for the party, they will HAVE to listen to you.
If you only plan to beg them politely, they could choose to ignore you. Whether or not they listened to you in this case would be completely at the pleasure of the party.
No the game is over when the rules change.
If you are playing hockey and suddenly a referee with real authority over the game starts using the rules of basketball, hockey is OVER no matter what the players do. It doesn’t matter what the players do.
Getting paid shills to rep your interests for you is sleazy when not done transparently, but I would not say it’s malice. It’s manipulation. Manipulation in the world of politics is as common as air, and if manipulation is malice all of politics is malice.
Of course we don’t want to be manipulated. Just like no boxer wants to be knocked out. But if a boxer gets knocked out, that’s just how boxing works and it’s not malicious. Politics is a contact sport like boxing. Politics is dirty. It will always be dirty.
Begging the party won’t help.
It’s our job to COERCE the party to do our bidding. The party must know if they displease their voters there are meaningful risks and downsides for them. It’s our duty to engineer those meaningful risks and downsides or else the party has every reason to ignore us.
I thought that increasing wages for working people was a good thing
Imagine you have a patient with body temperature at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The environment is at -20F. You increase the heat around the hypothermic patient by a massive amount to +50F. Is that good enough? If you stop here and have no further plans, is that good or bad if saving a life is your goal? But it’s a massive movement in the right direction!
Now imagine that all the workers got a 20% raise. All the landlords read the same news as everyone else and raise their rents by 30%. Your wages increased massively but your ability to gain wealth is as bad as it ever was.
In other words, Biden must improve people’s ability to accumulate wealth at the lowest quintile and THEN brag.
If Biden’s security is too difficult, there are ways for the office of the President to send a signal. Besides Harris, a White House spokesperson can show up. Then Biden can go on TV and support the strikers from his White House office. Like a one two punch.
Acceptable to whom?
Obviously the strategy of voter shaming is acceptable to a lot of people.
I despise voter shaming. The politicians have to EARN our votes. Always. No exceptions.
Some folks are trying to flip this dynamic on its head, where the politician will do nice policies but only if we’re going to be good little boys and girls, shut up, stop making demands, and just vote for the billionaire-approved functionary.
