Yes, Lemmy accounts can only follow/subscribe to groups (besides Lemmy also mbin, piefed + also Peertube), but not individual accounts. A Lemmy account can only communicate with individual accounts if they write something in a community. That is one of the aims of mbin, to connect them: The structure of communities /magazines + a microblog feed.

Yes, Sharkey is a microblogging service and it can’t create headings, but it still displays them correctly. Among other things, this is better than with Mastodon.

Friendica shows all pictures of Lemmy, both in posts and in replies. The other way round only in OP.

This is the case with all content (posts + replies) on Mastodon, as it appears separately in the timeline. In this case, it has nothing to do with Lemmy.

Yes, you can do this from almost anywhere in the Fediverse. As Mastodon does not recognise headings, the first paragraph becomes the heading. This means that it looks better on Lemmy if you put the community tag at the end of the post and start with a content-related introduction.

This is a really good introductory video that explains the Fediverse. Very clear, good examples and for a target group with no prior knowledge. So if you want to recommend other people to join the Fediverse, this might be a good start. It would make things a lot easier if you were supported in advance in deciding which platform / software is best suited. At the moment, many people don’t even realise that they have a choice and they often start with Mastodon because that’s all they know. For some, it does fit, but many are not actually looking for a Twitter clone and not just microblogging and are then disappointed or confused.

I had once made drafts for a kind of “FediChooser” (alluding to Distrochooser), which, after answering a few questions about needs, expectations, experiences, gives one or more recommendations which platform would subjectively fit best for you.

I don’t know how big the dependency is and what the internal structures are like. I only remember that 2-3 years ago there was a message from him saying that he had some kind of burn-out and therefore needed a break of several months.

Let’s hope that there are also a few organisations that run Friendica instances so that the offer becomes a bit bigger. In the last two years, everyone has been totally fixated on Mastodon and many have opened a Mastodon server without realising that there were other options.
