Common core made an effort to teach kids to think about numbers this way and people flipped the fuck out because that wasn’t how they were taught. Still mad about that.

If you want to learn more about it than is frankly reasonable, Jamie Loftus recorded a detailed history including an interview with Naomi H.
Easier travel is definitely a great reason to increase density. Walking & biking > cars
If the island were 100 times larger, the houses would take 1% of the land area, leaving 99%. The apartment complex would take up .04%, leaving 99.96%, which isn’t much of an improvement. The proportions of our planet are much closer to my scenario than this made up island. That’s a reason why we might not “prefer apartments in our own town.”
There are good reasons you might want density, this just isn’t one of them.
migrants were capturing the geese from the local park pond and eating them
This is totally fine by me, I don’t see the problem
IIRC that’s a plot in Beasts of Burden. It’s a good read regardless. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7703037-beasts-of-burden
The idea that “we should take drastic action to stop global warming” is more extreme than “we should do nothing and allow the planet to become incapable of supporting civilization” is a huge problem.
Well, no, but there’s a big gap between “not helping” and “wounding”, and this is much, much closer to the “not helping” end of that gap.
What wound?
I mean the critique behind “why didn’t he do it when he had the majority” still applies: calling for a constitutional amendment is ineffectual. There’s no way a constitutional amendment is going to happen in today’s political environment.
Also the court reform he’s proposing isn’t a constitutional amendment, but since he waited until he didn’t have a majority, that can’t happen either.
It’s almost like he doesn’t want change.
This is … good? Fuck Trump, don’t vote for him, but diplomacy is good. Progressives should be advocating for an end to our economic warfare against the people of NK, and attitudes like this are moving in that direction.
She should be bankrolled by the state for the grievous harm it did to her, but she’ll probably get nothing.
Standard procedure for antifa supersoldiers
Probably fine. I think a lot about how Bayer, which literally made the gas for the chambers, is still around and apparently doing well. And while Germany was war ravaged, it wasn’t to a much greater extent than the rest of Europe.
Wow, really? I was under the impression soda is good for your health. Tell me more.
Reminder: Hamas does not have a presence in the West Bank. Mass killings of Palestinians have never been about containing or defeating Hamas. The killing, destruction of property/seizure of land, and creation of fear are the point.
If I had a take that was at once obviously false and personally embarrassing, I’d declare it satire, too.
Huge missed opportunity: could have been God made Adam and Eve, not Maple and Leaf
