As a chemist when I read such a title I already know it’s one of those organic chemistry rule of thumb rules. All of them are named and most of them old and from text books. Such rules are useful rules for drawing stick figures of molecules. They are not the same as actual rules of physics for example.

But it’s always cool when someone finds out how to make molecular structures we thought wouldn’t work.

Did it? We’re still here.

Right? For me the free as in freedom always had the upside and downside of people have the freedom to use it how they want. Within the very lenient license which might be in use of course. This can include the freedom to do things with the software which the creators and contributors might not agree with or like.

But in the end a certain trust in humanity and the concept of freedom itself mean that we believe the net sum of making your software free will be positive for everyone. And to this day I haven’t managed to become enough of a cynic to change my mind on this.

Its possible to dicuss licenses which helps prevent certain abuse cases. In fact those already exist. However people talk like this is the main issue of FOSS which I don’t think it is at all.

They also do not descriminate against evidence based on reliability.

The absolute absurdity of work without pay becomes blatantly obvious when you reverse the situation.

Imagine you going to your boss and asking them if they could pay you for 10 hours of work even though you only worked 8 today.

It’d be considered ridiculous. But it’s the same thing.

In a employment relationship you got a contract stating the conditions in which you trade your time and skilled labor for money and benefits.

Neither side should feel entitled to free handouts on top.

Thierig also pointed out that sick leave tended to increase on Fridays and late shifts. “That is not an indicator of bad working conditions because the working conditions are the same on all working days and across all shifts. It suggests that the German social system is being exploited to some extent,” he said.

How bad of a manager can you be to not understand this? When your sick leave is more than three times as high as the automotive average, then your working conditions are so bad people are getting sick. Being too exhausted to work or unable to take another day of horrid working conditions at the end of the week is a symptom of that. Not being able to make it through a late shift for health reasons is not abusing the Healthcare system. That is what it’s for. Stop treating your people bad and they will be healthier and come to work. How hard is that to understand?
