Unfortunately I don’t have any recommendations I can give you as each enclosure could use a different chipset. It seems that the brand does not have a good reputation for compatibility but that list is fairly old at this point. All I can say is if you find an enclosure you like, plug the model number into the raspberry pi forum and see if anybody had to add it to the quirks list.

whoa whoa, I would not recommend a cheap AliExpress USB enclosure at all. As others have already pointed out there’s a whole ever-growing blacklist of partially incompatible enclosures that basically flake out whenever they feel like it. Worse yet, not every device is on the list so you frequently have to research and add devices yourself.

The last generic Inland m.2 enclosure I bought worked fine… for 1 hour. Then it disconnected and reconnected. I thought it was just random chance, until it happened again and again and again. Did the deep-dive research, found the chipset was partially incompatible and I had to return it.

My first thought went to the Milk-V Pioneer since it has mATX form factor, but both products are priced way higher than your average desktop.

I see so many people recommending deleting your Facebook account. As far as I am aware, that only removes your ability to control the information they collect. They will create a shadow profile of you anyway.

If you’ve already accepted their terms of service and have an account: Best thing to do is to lock down the privacy controls, audit the “off-facebook-activity” trackers once in a while and avoid those websites in the future, and never use the account. Give them no wiggle room.

Just yesterday I had that exact “Tech enthusiast vs tech worker” meme play out. I wanted a timer to control the electrical outlet for an aquarium bubbler. Saleswoman really wanted to sell me this “smart” controller with an app that can program the outlet.

Me:“What happens when the app stops working?”

(saleswoman is frantically flipping the box over for answers)

Her:“…maybe…it keeps the existing timer?”

Most of the DVDs I’ve played can skip the previews with chapter selection, but daaang the blu-rays locked that up. Can’t skip anything at all!

Yup, back when it transitioned to UWP. I don’t know if they removed them because I immediately extracted the old version from a previous Windows and have been towing along that import baggage every setup since.

I can’t recall a single computer I sold or had anyone buy having Word bundled with the computer, but Microsoft Works Word Processor was bundled everywhere, before they started doing the Office trial junk. I always ended up using WordPad in rtf format anyway because all the file format differences made moving docs so hard.

And yeah, ads in calc.exe, the death of WordPad, the bloating of Notepad… all pretty normal stuff now. There must be a mandate from the higher ups that anything untouched for x amount of days has to be removed or monetized.

Milk-V just keep churning these things out. I wonder what the RISC-V market looks like? I assume they’re targeting business application and not hobbyists? I’m very much ignorant, and have never seen an implementation using RISC-V anywhere.

I actually ordered a Mars just yesterday but I get the feeling, after initial intrigue, that it’ll be a curiosity that sits in the drawer until it eventually gets thrown away. Maybe it was a good thing Meles was sold out at the time of my order. haha

I don’t think it’s that simple for a business. Crypto is simultaneously an asset and an income once it is sold, but also not a traditionally defined accounting asset. Combine that with how slow the government has been to properly define crypto, I bet most businesses would rather just not have to deal with it. Last thing they’d want is the IRS coming after them for doing it wrong.

maybe it is tax reasons? I know that for personal taxes you have to simply declare crypto earnings but business tax laws don’t really like grey areas.

In the USA, if it is not explicitly written in your job description/contract that you are remote, yes. It also means you can’t apply for unemployment as you were terminated for refusal to perform work duties, even if you are working.
