If you owned a pet would you want your partner to know what to do if it starts choking?
Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, gaming in general, alternative operating systems, and all things modding.
Trying to post and comment often in an effort to add to Lemmy’s growth.
If you owned a pet would you want your partner to know what to do if it starts choking?
A level head is definitely an asset but I feel like having some familiarity with the situation can help.
Even if they don’t feel capable of doing anything themselves it should help them identify symptoms of a medical emergency or relay relevant information to medical professionals.
“Must chew with mouth closed” would be another odd one for a Tinder bio
With the example of a stroke I’d say recognizing the signs of a stroke is part of first aid.
A willingness or interest in it can definitely be considered part of it. I’ve hard partners that have refused to learn even after times they’ve witnessed me performing first aid
To me it’s more about helping each other out when accidents or something generally unexpected happens.
Having a stroke doesn’t require reckless behaviour.
It depends what you want in a laptop. I’d say the T480 is a great option because it’s the last in the line without soldered RAM and has a fair amount of upgradability.
That said the T440P can do most of the same stuff but it’s a little less powerful. Though I think you can upgrade the CPU to a degree.
There’s other things as well like if you want to install Libreboot or sometimes people will sell the laptop and the dock together.
I’ve heard you can use it to lubricate outdoor-facing hinges. Might work well for squeaky fence gates
Totally. I feel like that’s a bit of a holdover from Reddit is all and there’s usual some flexibility here so I’m saying it’s good when people utilize it.
Personally I like altering the title, including the origina title in the text, and maybe a few other articles on the topic or to add context. It doesn’t take much effort on my part and I feel like it shows I’m not just dumping links and might engage in a conversation about it.
I don’t think there’s much escaping that besides finding a small niche instance or blocking communities that aren’t relevant to you.
Each social media site has a stereotype demographic and I don’t see Lemmy’s changing in the foreseeable future.
Redditors using “This” is another thing I hated. It adds nothing to the conversation and came off as someone fishing for upvotes
It’s more targeted at the lemming who posted this. Considering people can edit post titles and add additional text to a link post there’s not really a risk in trying something more informative. They wouldn’t need to delete their post or match some ultra rigid formatting.
I don’t have any faith in Huffington Post (or several other news outlets) deviating from clickbait. In this situation someone might not recognize the name or act and assume it’s irrelevant to them. I can see why they do it but I don’t like it.
I miss a lot of the smaller dedicated communities. There were a lot there were essentially mirrored from Reddit but a lot of the userbase disappeared. They are widely federated and posts get votes and comments but there’s not a lot of people putting out content.
What I don’t miss is the power mods and all the auto mods. They just get tiring.
I haven’t seen a lot of people get upset about altered titles on Lemmy. I feel like there’s a general understanding that an accurate title is better.
Some people cite the article’s original headline in the text below the submitted link.
The one part I haven’t heard mentioned in other articles or videos about this is
Since the end of atmospheric nuclear testing, background radiation has decreased to very near natural levels,[5] making special low-background steel no longer necessary for most radiation-sensitive uses, as brand-new steel now has a low enough radioactive signature that it can generally be used.
I guess I assumed it would linger around for decades to come
Why not edit the title to be a little bit less clickbait?
Maybe something like:
Mark Kelly, A Possible Democratic Veep Pick, Just Changed His Position On Protecting the Right to Organize Act
I’d say it’s pretty predictable and comes in waves as issues come up.
For example some people from exploding-heads posting rightwing content outside their instance before they were widely defederated.
Another example is when illegal content was being posted in large communities and Lemmy.world started blocking users from posting/commenting using a VPN.
Other than that it’s a lot of knowing your audience.
When I was a teenager I nearly got arrested for trespassing. There was a way to get on top of a building and I was dared to check it out.
One thing I don’t see myself getting used to is seeing family getting older. Watching them not be able to do the things they want and occasionally losing their memory can be tricky to deal with
