If a transsexual can’t have proper healthcare, it can in fact result in death, that is very real.
Another thing that’s real is that they are treated so poorly in general that they have the highest suicide rate by far of any minority.
Finally many choose not to live as the gender they wish they could, because it’s too problematic even dangerous. Even if this isn’t a physical death, it is killing the existence of people that can live their life as transgender.

Much the same way as the Iranian president when he visited New York some years ago, claimed that Iran did not have homosexuals, so there was no oppression of them.
A completely ridiculous claim we know is biologically impossible, and we know is false because they seek refuge in the west.
And we know Iran executes people for being homosexual, which of course is the ultimate genocide of homosexuals.

The House of Lords serves as a check and balance against a government running amok.

But checks and balances from a body that by design is vastly conservative and somewhat religious is not a FAIR checks and balances.
If the government is elected democratically instead of first past the post like in UK, the checks and balances is democracy itself, but also the supreme court, as laws must align with the constitution.
Parlament is also a form of checks and balances.

So no House of lords is not a form of Checks and Balances, they are a form of oppressing the will of the people, so they don’t take too much power or money away from the rich. That’s what it was designed for, not as an instrument to improve democracy.

Ideally though, we could do with a House of … whatever’s below Common, because if the ones in the Commons are commoners, what does that make the rest of us?

Rulers will probably never be actually average. Even in a pretty good democracy. But I can say for sure, we are closer here in Denmark than the UK, because our democracy is better designed and more democratic.

You are making a strawman argument, there is much more to it than not being represented.

Lack of healthcare and lack of rights and protections that are common for other minorities, together with a huge deal of oppression, often violence and sometimes murder, is absolutely a kind of genocide, and in no way disrespectful to other forms of genocide.

At a minimum immigrants should be required to declare they respect basic norms and requirements in our societies, and breach of them could result in expulsion.
I’m thinking norms like respecting equal rights for women, respect our democracy, and respect other minorities, and respect that their religion is not more important than our laws.

I think to some degree the extreme right is rising because this lack of respect results in lack of respect the other way too. Which is harmful both ways, both to our democracy, and to the many immigrants that actually make an effort.

Bernie and AOC are very good too. There are probably others, USA has a lot of politicians. It’s impossible to know but a fraction of them.

I 100% agree, Al Franken was amazing at framing things and putting them into perspective. The sacrifice of him was a huge misunderstanding and completely undeserved.

Al Franken was possibly the most effective voice against Republican extremism. But he was sacrificed on Republican staged offense on the height of the wave of the me too movement.

Unfortunately Al Franken was sacrificed by leading democratic women on the wave of me too, on accusations staged by the Republicans.

In the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s West Germany was a poster-child for Denazification and democracy, and Nazi propaganda was and is illegal in Germany.
Even Scandinavian country Sweden, hailed for their liberal policies, had more Nazis than Germany.

But after reunification the weed began to grow back. AfD popularity is very much driven by the old Communist east Germany, which was also totalitarian.

Maybe it would have been better if East and West Germany hadn’t been reunited?

Negotiations can mean many things.
The only acceptable outcome is that Ukraine gets all its territories back including Crimea.
Then we can negotiate on maybe lifting some of the sanctions. There will probably also be negotiations on reparation for Ukraine.

Even in case of a total Russian defeat, there will probably be negotiations regarding many issues.

We (Denmark) have 0.9 homicides per 100,000 capita, UK has 1.1 USA has 6.3.
Of course there are other factors, but overall regulation definitely and very evidently helps.

The handle is just 4cm or about 1.5 inches, so a grown man can’t even hold it in his hand properly, it is clearly a kids toy. He may have used for role playing, although he called it a fidget toy?

Yes, this is scary, the media are basically all working for Trump, even those who claim the opposite. But they are falling for the Trump foghorn, just as much as any average Joe, where the media are supposed to be professionals and above that.

USA has done phenomenally well on the economy lately, that used to count for something, but apparently not so much anymore.
A lot of Americans are planning to vote for the ills of USA to get worse for some reason. They complain average people are not doing well, and then they plan to vote for the guy who is all in for the 1% over everything else? The guy who will gladly dismantle every shred of workers rights, from the party who is absolutely fine with full time work that doesn’t even earn a living wage! Who will do absolutely nothing to make things better for working people, but everything he can to cut taxes for the rich.

Ah well USA will get the government they elect, maybe a 2nd term with Trump will make some people wake up. But I doubt it, just look at WW2 Germany, the Nazi regime had to be toppled from outside, but there is nobody to do that with USA.

So if Trump wins, I will not be surprised if we get decades of fascist dictatorship in USA.
If things are not looking better when we reach August, I will sell my American stock, and I think everybody who doesn’t is naive in thinking a new term with Trump will end well.
