  • I couldn’t be available for the first half of out local one (SoCal), and had to stay phone accessible for the second half, but I drive through it. Honestly, the turnout was insane. I saw the huge crowd at the intersection where it was supposed to be, and thought it was really impressive. Then I drove through it and the crowd was just thicker and thicker as I went - it went for blocks. My friend went and he said it was a great experience - everyone was peaceful. Lots of cops, but just being present they way they should be when there are thousands of people on the street.

Hopefully this time there’s more news coverage. This AP story is a good start.

  • We must be about the same age. The VCR was a game changer. As I recall, the answering machine came just before it, and it’s kind of amazing how fundamentally that changed things, too. People from more recent generations just don’t get what a different paradigm it was when you couldn’t necessarily contact your friends. You’d call their house, but if there wasn’t an answer that didn’t necessarily mean much. They might be outside, or maybe not home. Maybe they were on their bike heading to your house.

  • Remember that you should be interviewing them as much as they’re interviewing you. Ask questions, not due the sake of asking them, but to find out if they’re a good fit for you (so the questions depend on what you care about). You might ask things like how many hours of OT a typical employee does, or what percent of turnover the area you’re interviewing for has typically experienced.

Otherwise, be professional but try to have a relaxed conversation as much as possible.
