X is rolling out its controversial update to the block feature, allowing people to view your public posts even if you have blocked them. People have protested this change, arguing that they don’t want blocked users to see their posts for reasons of safety.

Blocked users still can’t follow the person who has blocked them, engage with their posts, or send direct messages to them.

An old version of X’s support page says blocked users couldn’t see a user’s following and followers lists. The company has now updated the page to remove that reference, and it now allows users to see the following and followers lists of the people who have blocked them.

Lemmy let’s them respond to you even when blocked. Kind of funny to block someone for harassment and still see a comment removed pop up behind one of my comments a few hours later.

I find it fair in a way, I just wish it hid it from me completely since curiosity usually gets the best out of me. I’ve only had to block one person this whole time anyways, so it’s really not the end of the world either.

Anyone still posting there is probably not going to leave. Either way, it’s not like this block was hard to circumvent, you could just log out or use a different browser to see the posts by someone that blocked you, so this doesn’t really change a lot.

I’ve always just muted users instead of blocking anyway. I don’t care if they see what I post. I just want them out of my sight

Imagine thinking this is some sort of silver bullet…

Why would this piss off anybody? Do you understand how public posts work?

This is terrible for the remaining marginalized users on there. Blocking should become more strict not the other way around.

Lots of non-answers but to clarify - yes but no comments.

Sometimes a login wall might block you but if you refresh a couple of times it should work.

I think you can’t see anything recent, only posts a year or older until you log in.

But if the argument is blocked users should see your posts for safety reasons, then shouldn’t any anonymous non-logged-in user also not be able to see your posts?

Twitter “privacy” has never really been a thing. Everything was public for the longest time. You never needed to be logged in in order to see posts.

With Musk’s acquisition, there are some changes (that I personally haven’t cared enough to nail down) that came down the pipe where logging in is required. This was an issue for a lot of people because Twitter has been a public forum for so long.

Then there’s the ability to just make a new account.

Democrats are still always posting on X, and then users are forced to sign up for X to see their post, and then users are radicalized by the nonstop bots and AI feed manipulation going on by Musk… Pretty soon there will be no Democrats left.

In other news: X stops supporting commonly circumvented support of a non workable feature.

I have a SHOCKING idea. Don’t post publicly if you don’t want unwanted readers. I know I know really radical shit.
