65 isn’t very old, but it’s a lot on anyone’s plate if she was also taking care of a 90+ Alzheimer patient and 3 dogs.
The fact that they had a rodent infestation (which are known vectors for Hanta in NM) on their property seems like a pretty significant indication that she was overwhelmed. It’s not like they are average retirees; resources were not an issue.
What IS an ongoing pattern though, is elderly people overestimating their capabilities based on their younger selves, and ignoring the signs they need additional support. Eventually something catastrophic happens, like a car accident, and then people shake their heads like, “well, we kept telling Bill he was too old to drive at night anymore, but he’s just stubborn like that.” Meanwhile the collateral damage is done.
UPS just laid off 20K workers on the expectation that Amazon deliveries will be way down.
Container ships are down 60%. More than any month during the pandemic.

"Hantavirus pulmonary disease is fatal in nearly four out of 10 people who are infected, but fewer than 730 cases were identified in the US between 1993 and 2017.
Further police investigations of their grounds discovered widespread evidence of rodent infestation."
They shouldn’t have been living on their own; like many very elderly people, they both needed supervised care.
The larger issue is AWS (Amazon Web Services) which generates more than 70% of Amazon’s profits. The retail side is almost inconsequential.

Fair enough. I had the opposite, where foils caused irritation (even my Braun Series 7), but my Philips Norelco 9500 has been the superior shaver, all around.
I still use the One-Blade to pre-trim though, especially if the whiskers are longer.
Foils are good, but the rotary style electric shavers create the least irritation. I use one, and would recommend it. It also comes with a little cleaner base that keeps the heads disinfected and clean of hair particles.
A Phillips One-Blade will give you a decently close shave, but not razor close, but it also doesn’t cause nearly the irritation and doesn’t cut hairs below the skin.
One trick is to prep your skin with cold water, not hot or warm, which will cause the hairs to stand up, making the shave easier.
It’s a specific type of lying. Calling a thing by its name is fundamental to generating broad understanding.
I suggested someone add an icon of torches and pitchforks to an email they were sending to company to complain.
Banned for inciting violence.
Oh please. “Attacking?” Look how you’re framing this. It was a simple correction.
Let’s not turn Lemmy into Reddit with this type of add-on peanut gallery commentary. It does nothing for anyone except fuel negativity across the site.
*the poors must eat the shit.
Trickle Down used be called “Horse and Sparrow Economics.” As in the horses eat the grain, and sparrows peck their meals from the horseshit.

Is it live or is it Memorex?
Oh for sure. It bothers me to see people holding cutlery like it’s their first day on Earth.
Tines down for holding meat to be sliced is when the palm gets in on the action. But that’s a whole different hand from the usual forking.
They meant Medical doctors, not PhDs in Education.
Nah man, they know all that stuff. They’re simply paid to treat the reactive, not focus on proactive care.
Perhaps this person would be better employed as a tanker mate; that’s bang-on distribution to avoid hogging or sagging.
