Of course planes can’t fly over land! A famous example of this is in the Japanese RPG Final Fantasy VII, where you fly the Tiny Bronco (definitely not briefly over land) across waters. It cannot go on land.
They couldn’t fly over the land or someone would’ve spotted them, obviously
