I can’t look at the news, people get so high and mighty when you tell them you avoid politics.

“You’re the reason why there’s so and so ruining things!!”

“I guess you don’t care about your future huh?”

“Yeah go hide in your hole”

Bitch, I have HEART PROBLEMS from stress, I literally cannot be absorbing that shit. And even if I didn’t have this problem, fucking leave it, it’s not your business how people try to cope in this shit hole of a reality

Everyone has a response to this that contains a “but”

To clarify though, the news isn’t really politics. The news is theatre.

I agree that people can live their reality how they want but it also has to be remembered that everything is political so if you avoid politics it’s hard to complain when things aren’t going your way. Particularly if you live in a democratic system.

This video by the UK’s Electoral Commission always sticks in my mind about politics

I feel like you’re sidestepping my entire point here. Nobody who’s actively avoiding politics is complaining about things not going their way, they’re too busy focusing on their mental health.

Bullshit. People avoid politics and have loud opinions all the time. I understand your burden, the state of the world is depressing af, but to claim that the ignorant keep their opinions to themselves is absurd.

This is exactly what I was talking about though, I’ve told you “I avoid politics” and here you are hounding me about my decision.

What I would prefer to happen is the default response is “oh yeah, okay.” But no, people can’t help but weigh in with their opinions

I havent watched the news in like 20 years. I feel quite calm. Whats the point of worrying about news when you cant do anything about it?

You can still get armed and ready. You could be ready to save a person you love’s life. That’s something you can do about it.

If you live in the US, I guess you can? Its pretty hard in Europe to get armed. :)

Sorry for the US Defaultism. You probably can’t even get a machete. Nothing stopping you from making your own with paracord or something for the handle.

            Are crossbows illegal?

Its ok :) I think people having weapons is a source of a lot of bad things, but also a lot of good things. So its a mixed bag. I dont like being in a country where I cant protect my family from intruders. But I like that its rare with school shootings.

              In my country (Germany)

Crossbows are legal to own and sell for adults. They are allowed to be shot at certified locations (i.e. shooting ranges) but not necessarily on your own property. You need a license for shooting them on your own property if the energy of the projectile exceeds 7.5 Joules. In comparison, a 9mm pistol shoots projectiles with 300-500 Joules.

              Basically (for crossbows):

              • 0 - 0.08 Joules: toy, freely available
              • 0.08 - 0.5 Joules: toy, only available for children over 14
              • 0.5 - 7.5 Joules: weapon, license free for adults, shooting on your own property is allowed
              • >7.5 Joules: weapon, shooting on your own property is only permitted with a license

For comparison: a 9mm pistol shoots with 300-500 Joules.

Why would you want a crossbow though? Keep in mind that you are not allowed to use weapons for self-defense, even if you don’t need a license for them. Furthermore, I’m not sure whether you are allowed to publicly carry the crossbow at all.

Very interesting info, thanks. I just mentioned them because they’re fun to shoot and wondered if they were illegal. I know you have your own problems with AFD but the situation here is a bit more dire.

Im not prepping for doomsday, I think its better to die in that scenario. But having some form of self defence, im all in favor for that. Police comes after someone has been murdered, not before.

This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.

I really feel like it’s time to worry about making a sustainable, entirely local effort to stop playing the game, and just have your own sources of necessity, like farms, ranches, people willing to build shelter, and just stop doing all this exterior shit. Because pretty soon here in the US the open corruption of kleptocrats is going to inevitably lead to everyone else not caring about the rules no one is paying to be enforced.

I’ve thought the same except climate change will lead to more rolling disasters. For instance, wouldn’t it be great to homestead, but what if extreme heat kills all your crops? You’re dead. This is a global problem that will only change through social change or not and 99% of us die.

Well, you’ve got to climate-proof it. At least try to. Hydroponics, which, if done right, is both more space efficient, less susceptible to disease and environmental hindrances, and requires much less water. Solar power generation loves the sun and the cells will not really care how hot it is (in realistic environments), they will only get more efficient. Go subterranean to a degree, and have your architecture style be inspired by things like Earthships.

Freshwater can be gotten from wells, rain traps or dehumidifiers. If you want animals, you will have to hold them in buildings similar to your own dwelling.

Keep in mind that this advice is for if you expect it to get hot in your area. However, parts of Europe will tend to get colder due to climate change, at least at certain times of the year.
